What do F 8 to F 20 coin grades mean ?

I am not a coin collector but I recently got interested in purchasing some Morgan Silver Dollars on ebay. Up until today, I purchased 3 of these coins ( 1 for $ 9.50 + 2 for $ 12.50 each ). Today on ebay I bought a ” lot ” of 11 of these Morgan Silver Dollars for $ 12.50 for the whole ” lot ” of 11. The ebay coin dealer ” ad ” said these were mixed dates & were graded from F 8 to F 20. I can’t imagine that I got ” ripped of ” at that price ?…but I was hoping that a true coin collector could enlighten me as to what I may have purchased with respect to these coins & also guide me as to what I should look for or seek if I purchase any more Morgan Silver Dollars ? Also, I ordered something called ” Never Dull Polish ” which I understand is okay to use to clean these coins ? I haven’t received any of above 14 Morgan dollars or the polish yet; but it has also been suggested that I buy Black Ring Airtite Morgan Holders ? I would welcome any good advice or guidance ?

First of all you never clean coins for they lose their value. How someone could sell a lot of 11 real silver dollars for $12.50 is beyond me for he sure lost a lot of money just in the silver alone. You are playing a dangerous game and in the end will lose your money. The 11 silver dollars have to be fakes. Any coin dealer that tells a collector to clean his coins, may have done so for the coins he sells are cleaned. A $1000 coin harshly cleaned may only be worth a $100 or if an inexpensive coin will only be worth its silver value and loses its collector value. I would need to see the coins or at least scans. You need to learn about grading. Coins are graded on a scale of 1-70 these days but the old designations are still with us. An aver age coin in grade good is called good-4 the next step up is Very Good-8, then Fine- 12, then Very fine 20 and so on up the scale. Instead of writing fine-12 most collectors use F-12. I hate to see new collectors start out wrong and get screwed by so called dealers who are really crooks. If you wish, email me through Yahoo answers and I will send you an email address so we can go over this more. Don’t buy any more coins on Ebay.

where can i get a valuation on very old coins from INDIA?

You can seek the assistance of a numismatist specializing in Indian coins, or use the Krause-Mishler Standard Catalog of World Coins as valuation guide. The latter you can try to find in your local library, and it comes in volumes according to the century the coins belong to.

What do I need to do to clean up these coins?

I have a lot of coins (lot meaning “collection”), which include

Nickel 1942
Nickel 1949
Nickel 1957
Nickel 1940
Nickel 1948

Susan B. Anthony Silver Dollars

Bicentennial quarters

Some of the nickels are actually selling on eBay for a lot more than $.05, so I figure I should part with these. I know nothing of numismatics and I’m not devoted enough to keep these much longer.

What can I do to clean them up without destroying any worth? Thanks!

If the 1942 Jefferson nickel has a large mint mark above the Monticello dome, it is 35% silver, and it is probably worth more than a dollar. The rest of your coins would not sell for much more than face value.

NEVER clean collectible coins, especially with an acid like vinegar!

How to get the Airbag error code in 96 Camry?

I tried to read the OBD-II code using my Laptop and ELM 327 connector. There is no error registered. I used the access behind the coin box. Should i have to do it differently to know the airbag error code? Air bag light is on. Is there a different access for air bag computer module?
I tried the procedure from the factory manual. Even after the code was cleared it comes back again 54 – Open on Passenger side. How to check what is the problem in the squib?

I always use a snap-on scanner. To access it with OBD2 the plug should be under the dash on the drivers side your laptop thing probably isn’t working because the software to access the system is vehicle specific.Just because the federal goverment said with OBD2 everyone has to have the same connector and put it in aproximatly the same place,Most mfg’rs have different software to pull codes.Get ahold of a automotive scanner and it should be no problem.

coin collecting
When collecting coins is it better to buy a roll of each coin from each mint?

or just buy single coins that is cased from each mint?

It is a matter of cost and what you want.
In MOST cases, you can NOT buy directly from the mint and would need to go through a dealer.
(I get “new” releases, such as “gold” dollars in “mint” rolls at my local bank, actually from a bank supplier and NOT uncirculated BUT never opened.)

how can i find a REPUTABLE dealer in numismatic coins?

There is alot of room for fraud in this business

Avoid the dealers at coins shows that have the big fancy “we buy coins / silver / gold” signs…these dealers usually try to pay below spot for rare coins…this has been my experience. I have had good luck with Paradise Mint (FL) – on ebay.
