hammered coins
im looking to find out about a coin with john f kenny on it.?
it was from the first batch of half dollar coins.seemly there was one with a symbol under his neck of a sickel and hammer. i heard a russian was jailed when the coin was issued. does anyone know anything about it ?
It looks like this urban legend is going around again. It is the stylized initials of Gilroy Roberts and no Russian went to jail. Back in 1946 the Roosevelt dime came out with the initials of John Sinnock the designer of it and the story floated around that JS stood for Joseph Stalin. Unfortunately a lot of people are very gullible that is why con men have an easy time. Thanks for asking, instead of just repeating the story for it is not true.
