rare coin values Does anyone know about rare coin values?
I have a few coins that i can’t find how much they are worth. Some might not even be worth anyting but here they are. 1899 US dime- buffalo nickel with no date- buffalo nickel with a date i can’t read(1913 or 1813 mabey?)-1942 US dime-1938 Candadian dime. well i have a few other dimes that are like 1952 but i dont think that they are worth anything. So if you know the value of any of these then please do help me out. But don’t be some jerk who just gives me a bunch of lies. So thanx in advance!
Well I won’t lie to you. The coins you have are common and the U.S dimes are 90% silver and the canadian is 80% silver. Unless the dimes are in mint state they are worth the silver value only. A Buffalo (Bison) nickel that one can hardly read the date is mabe worth .25 to someone who will make jewelry out of it. Now that is the way it is. At this time there is about a $1.30 of silver in the U.S. dimes. Dealers pay a percentage less.

collectible coins Why does cleaning collectible coins decrease their value?
I have read many comments on these boards stating that you should NEVER clean a collectible coin using ANY method, because doing so would decrease it’s value by at least half. Nobody ever says why. Why wouldn’t a clean coin be worth more than one covered with tar, body oils, and gutter slime?
In general, when selling antiques and other valuable items; when you clean something you are damaging it. And when an item is not cleaned the patina that builds up on it is an indication of its true age.
Things that are too clean are often fakes. It is difficult to fake the build up of dirt and grim that come with the passage of time.
Collectors can acess the age of something better if it is not cleaned.
If the buyer wants the item cleaned, let them do it. This also saves you as a seller from having to bother with that.

There is one variety of the 1979-P SBA dollar worth saving and that is the wide rim (near date) one. The rim is wide and the date almost touches it. Other than that the mintage’s were very high. 360,222,000 1979-P and 288,015.744 1979-D. The wide rim variety is included in the P mint figure. Wide rim $20 or so.
