I have a bunch of random foreign coins laying around and was wondering if any of them would sell for anything more than exchange value (around $2.50 total) on eBay, Amazon, etc (especially the “obsolete” ones).

The Balboa up to 1974 is .900 silver. There are no 2 Balboa coins. The 5 Balboa did not start until 1970 and it depends on the date and type as to it’s silver content, some are .500 and others .925. The 1/10 Balboa and up are usually .900 silver until 1962. Some coins like the 1/2 Balboa were .400 silver clad up to 1972. Looks like there is no basic rules here so the coins need to be looked up by denomination and date.

Let’s say our stereotypical American conservative (goes to church every Sunday, hates socialized medicine, loves the military, believes that America is number one and believes in the family values of the Republican Party) finds out that his beloved church is involved in sex scandals, finds out that America doesn’t have the greatest health-care system in the world despite what Rush Limbaugh and others tell him (look up the facts for Japan and France and Switzerland, please), is actually called upon to fight for his country in the armed forces, discovers that several countries also enjoy freedom and a high standard of living (Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Ireland, Luxembourg, etc.) and that several of his beloved Republican politicians are actually adulterers, does he get disillusioned or does he stick to his guns? Lord knows, most of the aforementioned happened to me, and it shook me up pretty badly!
