Aside from search engines…?

..what are some sites that I can advertise my website? I’ve heard that directories aren’t really that helpful. Any comment on this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You advertise because you want traffic. The only traffic that matters is “targeted traffic” – that is traffic that is specifically interested in your product type or service type.

If you focus on that type of prospect you r job of making money is significantly easier, the marketing money and effort you invest will have a huge (ROI) AND last but not least, you can offer the traffic exactly what htye want …

… by contrast if your traffic is diverse, you don’t know what to put in front of them to interest them to read further (& you only have 7 seconds or there abouts, yes just 7 seconds to get them to read further or they’re gone!)

With that background info in mind directories are useless for advertising. The only two exceptions are:

Dmoz.org (free)
Yahoo Directory (paid but worth it if your budget is not extremely restricted. … I think the current price ofr a listing is $299 for a year but please check)

The value of directories is to get “backlinks” to your site and therefore get a higher ranking in the search engines. Some peple think they’re not even worth it for that .. you’ll have to test. Add nyour link to a few free directories (but don’t pay for advertising). Wait a a week maximum and see if the search engines show that directory as a site linking to you. If so, do more directory listings … there are thousands that are free. The more you list your site at, the more backlinks and the higher oyour search engine rankings.

Use a tool such as direcotry submitter to get semi automated listings. Do not use AUTOMATED listings … you want to vary the link text (the text that is clickable to go to your site) every time … if they’re all the same the search engines know you hav eused a mass submission tool and don’t increase your site’s ranking.

OK, advertising … You could use any of:

Yahoo Search Marketing – highly targeted, fast traffic and you can budget

Google Adwords – the same

MSN Adcenter – also not bad but not as good as the above two.

I highly recommend that you read an ebook on any of the above systems or else you advertising costs will be high and your results will be low. There are thousands of people who are making fortunes using the above and they don’t even have their own products or websites!

Finally, create a “diversified traffic strategy” so you are not dependent on one source of traffic. Keep adding new methods/sources to your strategy but only tackle one, improve, perfect and then move on to the next.

Here is a quick list to stat your strategy:

- article writing and submiision to free article directories (known as Article Marketing) … an established and reliable marketing method.

- video marketing using small teaser videos placed on YouTube and many other video sites … a fantsatic new method

Use a video distribution service to save a firtune in time and effort – here’s the best one on the market:

http://TrafficGeyser.com (this is a direct link and not an affiliate link)

- Affiliate Marketing: Other people ie your affiliates, will send you traffic in return for a commission on every sale resulting from their referral … costs you nothing until you make a sale and then only a portion of your profit (that you wouldn’t have had without that affiliate).

You must learn each method before jumping in or else you get nothing out of it and waste your time.

Have fun
